Environmental Policy

Carolyn Cross Communications is a public relations and copywriting consultancy based in Bristol. Since the primary objective of our business is to promote best practice within the environmental field, we place resource efficiency at the heart of our practices and ensure that we are able to demonstrate our own commitment to continuous environmental improvement.

The waste hierarchy of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ is a cornerstone of all our business practices. We also operate a responsible procurement policy.

Our business impacts on the environment through:

• Administration

• Travel

• Client commissions

We aim to address these impacts through interventions in the following areas:

Administration:
• Reduction in office printing and printing double-sided
• Green procurement – purchasing of recycled paper, Fairtrade products, green electricity, gas from a social enterprise supplier, and banking with socially and environmentally responsible organisations
• Waste management policy based on reduction, reuse, recycling and composting
• Manual control of heating to save energy

Travel
• Travel reduced by conducting meetings by telephone/conference call
• Use of public transport to attend meetings

Client Commissions
• Specification of recycled paper and environmentally-friendly printing processes for client work
• Communication of environmental policy to customers and clients, to improve environmental awareness

Objectives

During 2011 and 2012, we aim to:

• Explore the potential for switching to a renewable gas supplier

• Explore alternative options within the sustainable banking sector

• Audit all waste and procurement to ensure that all materials are covered within current policy

The policy is reviewed annually and updated where necessary. It forms the basis for setting environmental improvement objectives that influence the way we do business.
